Dr. Terry Hargrave, Founder

Title of Plenary:

The Secrets of Self Emotional Regulations: Benefits, Research and Techniques in Restoration Therapy

Description: There are substantial advantages to the work of self-regulation and control. In this two part plenary, the advantages of self-regulation over co-regulation will be explored and discussed as well as how the techniques of Restoration Therapy around emotional regulation and mindfulness developed and are deployed. In part two, a live demonstration of the techniques will be presented and sufficient time for audience interaction.

Dr. Terry Hargrave, Founder

Terry Hargrave, Ph.D. is nationally recognized for his pioneering work with intergenerational families and is the most important founder of Restoration Therapy. Dr. Hargrave has authored over 30 professional articles and thirteen books including Restoration Therapy: Understanding and Guiding Healing in Marriage and Family Therapy (co-authored with Franz Pfitzer) and Families and Forgiveness: Healing Wounds in the Intergenerational Family (2nd Edition, co-authored with Nicole Zasowski).

Dr. Hargrave has presented nationally and internationally on the concepts and processes of family and marriage restoration, intergenerational families and aging. His work has been featured on ABC News 20/20, Good Morning America and CBS Early Morning as well as several national magazines and newspapers. He has been selected as a national conference plenary speaker and as a Master’s Series Therapist by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Dr. Hargrave is the Evelyn and Frank Freed Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California and is president and in practice at Amarillo Family Institute, Inc.

Michael Cox, Licensed Professional Counselor

Title of Plenary:

Restoration Therapy and Adolescents

Description: Emotional regulation for adolescents, one might say this is an oxymoron in and of itself. In this session, we will not only discuss how this is possible but look at techniques and tools to assist young people in doing so. Additionally, we will discuss the familial, environmental and social influences that contribute to both pain and peace in adolescents.

Michael Cox, Licensed Professional Counselor

Michael Cox seeks to utilize his training in assisting individuals, marriages and families to discover their God-given potential and see it actualized. Together with his wife they conduct marriage seminars, coach couples in preparation for marriage and walk with families seeking to live healthy lives. Michael Cox is also an Elite Trainer for the National Council for Behavioral Health in Mental Health First Aid. Additional areas of focus include suicide ideation recognition, parent and child relationships, youth development, depression, anxiety, sexual identity, and working with individuals struggling with their faith and mental health. Michael Cox is the proud husband of wife Coloma and father to their three young boys.

Nicole Zasowski, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Title of Plenary:

Live Demonstration: Working with Issues of Forgiveness

Description: The work of forgiveness is often referred to as the “trauma treatment” in Restoration Therapy. In this demonstration, the issues of forgiveness will be discussed as well as demonstrated. Particular attention will be given to the therapeutic work of Empowerment (Insight) and Compassion (Understanding).

Nicole Zasowski, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Nicole is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Connecticut, where she maintains a private practice and lives with her husband, Jimmy. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Pepperdine University and received her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary. Nicole is also a contributor to several publications, speaks regularly at local seminars, and is a part-time adjunct professor at Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, NY, where she teaches a course titled, “Marriage Enrichment.” She is the co-author of Families and Forgiveness, 2nd Ed. along with Terry Hargrave.
